ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) — A traveling organization made a stop in St. Joseph to talk about today’s political climate in the United States. <\/p>\n

The All American hosts non-partisan meetings across the country, offering a safe place to talk politics and divisiveness that many say dominates the political sphere. <\/p>\n

Missouri Jobs with Justice also mobilized during the meeting, collaborating with the All American team.<\/p>\n

Roughly 50 residents of St. Joseph and beyond attended, participating in non-partisan activities that created discussion around the political climate, including topics such as artificial intelligence, healthcare, and wealth distribution.<\/p>\n

“It was nice to be able to come into a room where both views were supported on both sides and seeing the work across the aisle,” said Michael Hanson, an attendee.<\/p>\n

Organizers say they came to St. Joseph to bring awareness to a place that is less urban than, say, Kansas City, and to offer a safe place to foster discussion around politics.<\/p>\n

“The future of America can’t just be in the urban centers that we know. It’s got to be in these places where people are really looking for ways to get ahead,” said Ilyse Hogue, founder of The All American.<\/p>\n

Organizers further said diverse perspectives don’t always have to bring arguments, but can be used to bring people together toward a common goal.<\/p>\n

“What we believe is that there is an interest in using those things to divide us against each other. But actually when we’re in rooms like this, we can bring that diverse experience together and learn from each other,” Hogue continued.<\/p>\n

Attendees said they appreciated the casual approach toward discussion that can sometimes feel hostile.<\/p>\n

“I like being able to be in an environment where people were able to express how they feel and their concerns about what is going on. It was a really good environment, very interesting,” said Tracey, an attendee.<\/p>\n

Attendees also said more conversations like this need to be had to push America forward.<\/p>\n

“The betterment of America and security of America going forward is shared on both sides. I think we just need to get a little bit more work done on it,” Hanson said.<\/p>\n
