JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) &#8212; The YWCA kicked off Domestic Violence Awareness Month on October 1st with its annual &#8220;Hear My Voice&#8221; event, which spotlighted the experiences of those impacted by domestic violence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jade Lashley, Community Support Manager at the YWCA, said the event provides a space for survivors to share their stories through art, music, and poetry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Healing takes shape in so many various ways,&#8221; Lashley said. &#8220;It allows that survivor to share their experience in a way that doesn&#8217;t have to be telling that story over and over.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event featured a survivor speaker, a poem by a survivor and advocate, and art pieces from community members across Buchanan, Andrew, and DeKalb County.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lashley stressed that domestic violence is a year-round issue, often happening behind closed doors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;If somebody is willing to disclose that abuse to you, it&#8217;s our duty to listen to them, believe them, and provide whatever support we can,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To support the YWCA, you can visit their website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ywcasj.org\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kq2.com\/news\/2026\/10\/01\/ywca-hosts-hear-my-voice-for-domestic-violence-awareness-month\/\">YWCA hosts &#8220;Hear my Voice&#8221; for Domestic Violence Awareness Month<\/a> appeared first on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kq2.com\">KQ2 | St. Joseph, Missouri News, Weather &amp; Sports<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ST.
