(KQTV) &#8212; The Maryville Department of Public Safety and Nodaway County Emergency Management announced it will discontinue the use of Textcaster, a service which sends severe weather alerts to phones in the area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The department announced Thursday that it would cease the use of the program by Dec. 31, 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a news release, Textcaster restructured its fee schedule, which included raising its rates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The department decided to discontinue the service, as there are free weather apps the community could utilize to receive severe weather alerts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, the department is also encouraging the Maryville and Nodaway County communities to look at and utilize other methods to receive severe weather alerts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A news release said it is encouraged for families and homes to have at least two different methods of receiving severe weather communications.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Weather Service offer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/alerts\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/alerts\">severe weather alerts and updates<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, KQ2&#8217;s Storm Tracker Weather app is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kq2.com\/about-us\/download-our-apps\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.kq2.com\/about-us\/download-our-apps\/\">available to download for free<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kq2.com\/news\/local-news\/2026\/09\/28\/nodaway-county-to-cease-severe-weather-alert-texts\/\">Nodaway County to cease severe weather alert texts<\/a> appeared first on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kq2.com\">KQ2 | St. Joseph, Missouri News, Weather &amp; Sports<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MARYVILLE, Mo.
