Second Harvest surpasses Hunger Action Month goal

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) — In September, Second Harvest Community Food Bank celebrated Hunger Action Month in an effort to prepare food for individuals and families in need.
Second Harvest said it surpassed its goal of packing over 45,000 pounds of food. The organization said the number does not include mobile pantries or partner food pantries.
Second Harvest said it saw 637 volunteer hours across 41 groups, with a total value of $19,917 in volunteer work.
About 2,398 pounds of food were collected at the organization’s “Fill the Vans” event, 1,159 Senior Boxes were packed, 649 Family Packs were built and 1,000 pounds of cereal were packaged.
“We are grateful for those who believe in our mission and encourage others to join the fight to end hunger moving forward,” the organization said in a news release.
