Maitland man arrested, faces sodomy charges

HOLT COUNTY, Mo. (KQTV) — The Holt County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Maitland, Missouri, man on a warrant for two charges.

Derrick L. Kernen, 38, was charged with statutory sodomy or attempted statutory sodomy- deviate sexual intercourse with a person less than 14 years old — and second-degree child molestation for an aggravated sexual offense with a child less than 17 years old and older than four years old.

The Sheriff’s Office arrested Kernen on Sept. 10; he is currently being held in the Andrew County Jail with no bond.

According to a probable cause statement, a June interview at Voices of Courage detailed that the juvenile victim described Kernen subjecting the child to sexual activities on multiple occasions at their Maitland home.

Kernen’s arraignment was held on Sept. 11. A case review is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 7.
