Southside Fall Festival celebrates successful 37 years of festivities

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) — The Southside Fall Festival wrapped up today, and for organizers, it was another successful year of bringing fall to St. Joseph.

The event always starts over the weekend, and while Saturday was a hot day that turned into rain, organizers say turnout still exceeded expectations.

Sunday provided overcast skies and cooler weather, drawing in crowds of hundreds to Hyde Park.

Organizers say the year went well, even though they had to lay hay out to combat the muddy grounds early in the morning.

But after over 30 years of hosting the festival, organizers say they’re ready to go through anything to keep tradition alive.

“This festival has been going on for 37 years, if I’m not mistaken. I’ll turn 37 this year. This is all I know,” said Kori Hughes, secretary of the Southside Fall Festival board. “It’s been a big part of my family. I know it’s a huge part of other people’s. We see a lot of returning faces, a lot of people that look forward to certain things here. So it’s really just a big family traditional thing.”
