Nodaway County Sheriff honors retired K9 after passing

NODAWAY COUNTY, Mo. (KQTV) — The Nodaway County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the passing of one of its own after eight years of service.

Monday, the Sheriff’s Office announced the passing of its retired K9, Bolt.

“For eight years, Bolt faithfully served Nodaway County and the surrounding communities. Every day on the job was spent right behind me- his handler, his partners, and, without a doubt, the most important person in his world. His days off were no different. We were together all day, every day,” Nodaway County Sheriff Austin Hann wrote in a Facebook post.

Hann praised Bolt for his loyalty to the job, noting “nothing could slow him down- except time.”

When it was time for Bolt to retire, he traded his badge to protect Hann’s home, yard and family.

According to the post, Bolt died on Friday, Sept. 11; he was 11 years old.

“I know Bolt loved his job. He loved his people. And he spent his entire life doing what he was born to do- protecting and serving,” the post said. “Rest easy, Bolt. You’ve done your job.”
